What is a dashboard?

A website that:
  • Organizes information so it is easy to read and interpret
  • Provides up-to-date status information on Key Performance Indicators (KPI’s)
  • Presents information graphically through charts, gauges, maps, tables, etc.
  • Presents information in a simple and easy to monitor manner that indicates where action needs to be taken

What is the objective of the Dashboard Functionality Analysis?

The proposed program will produce a recommendation as to whether dashboard business intelligence technology and services would meet the broader needs of the University, as an extension of the current enterprise-wide business intelligence architecture.

Who is participating in this analysis?

  • Each campus and University Administration will have their own proof-of-concept project to build a working dashboard for a particular purpose, as defined by the needs of each participating group
  • A group of representatives from all campuses will take a look at the high-level needs of the overall University for dashboards
  • A technical team will examine the feasibility of dashboard technology as an enterprise-wide service

What is the timeframe for the analysis and what happens next?

  • The analysis program started in July 2007, and is expected to be completed in March 2008
  • If the analysis determines dashboards will be valuable to the University and can be reasonably implemented, a proposal for an implementation project will be submitted for approval through the IT Priorities Committee and funding through AAMT.

How can I provide input into the analysis program?

  • Follow along with our proof-of-concept projects, review the recommendation, and provide input
  • Participate in the overall University needs analysis:
    • Volunteer to be interviewed
    • Serve as an advisor: Advisors will review the summary report of interviews and provide suggestions regarding areas of investigation
